I normally don’t talk a whole lot about politics and religious oppression or rights, but I think I just heard about the most ridiculous thing in quite some time. Sadly, it’s about a cup.
Starbucks recently rolled out their holiday cup. It’s just a simple, red cup with their logo on it. It doesn’t say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or any message whatsoever to let customers know it’s a Christmas cup. I’ve seen the cup and I think it’s good. I like plain and simple, and the fact that it’s red and that red is traditionally a Christmas color, that is good enough for me. I don’t need to have a tree or lights or snowflakes or messages or Jesus on there to be happy with a drink from Starbucks.
Not so with others. Many Christians are outraged with Starbucks right now because of their red cup. Like, seriously? As a Christian, you are going to complain about some cup? Starbucks has never professed to be a Christian company. And just because it’s Christmas, why do they need to have a Christian Christmas type of cup?
All the haters need to get over themselves. There are far more important things in this world that we should be focusing on instead of what some coffee company chooses to use as their holiday cup. In fact, Jesus doesn’t care about the coffee you drink or what cup you drink it in for that matter. What does He care about? Helping the homeless, the orphans, the widows, the down and out, those in poverty, etc.
If you really want to be the Christian you profess to be, stop causing turmoil and start loving. If you don’t agree with Starbucks’ nice, red cup then guess what? You don’t have to go to Starbucks for a coffee! Why not give that money to someone else in need instead? And instead of spreading the hate and adding to the uproar, for goodness sake go help your neighbor.
Sheesh, usually I feel Christians are oppressed, but then “Christians” go and do something like this. Really? Let’s move on.
As always, thank you for reading my rant! I think I need to protest all the protestors and get myself a Starbucks coffee.
