David Millican’s debut novel, Frontier Preacher, is now available in eBook and Paperback!

About the Book

bookHollis feared the loneliness would swallow him whole. He had arrived in Wyoming to fulfill his uncle’s dying wish – that he save the people of Gillette – but his education and faith had not prepared him for the bitter cold and hardened hearts of the west. A dark secret in his new home threatens to destroy his very soul. Will Hollis be strong enough to stand against the tide of evil? Can he overcome where stronger men failed, before the west claims another victim?

After that he didn’t need to hunt anymore and without the distraction one day would drift into another until it was Sunday again. Back with his three patrons he would deliver a sermon with vigor and passion. At least they started out that way but the lack of interest and participation would bleed him of his energy by the end. The three hoary headed women didn’t even seem to notice the transition from the sermon into the song until the second or third verse.

His sermons at the Dodd Saloon however were a different story. He would preach on the strength and beauty of God, on the plan of Salvation, on the power that came with being a child of God and they would respond with vigor. They called out their amens and their hallelujahs while they downed their scotch whiskey. They thumped the floor while Hollis reached a crescendo about Jesus’s power over death and they thumped the table calling for another round. Hollis had given up singing with them as they turned it into a bar song rather than a praise for God.
